SC times

Mark Knaak from the St Cloud Times came to speak to us today.  He answered the questions that we had posted on d2l before.  I thought what he had to say was very interesting and helpful to mass communication majors.  I thought one of the most interesting things he told us what the reason he decided to go into journalism was.  It was when he was a kid in 1968, he claims this year had so much ground-breaking world news that he couldn't help but want to deliver the news to the world himself.

Wednesday 9-8

Today in class we talked more about networks and what they are.  Also we talked about different types of networks, such as WAN, wide area network, PAN, personal area, and many others like a campus network or a local area network.

Monday the 30th's Class (and technology in my home)

In Mondays class we finalized the syllabus for the semester and continued our discussions about technology.  We went more in depth on our tech articles.  We learned the difference between closed and open source software and the advantages and disadvantage of both. I really don't know which I prefer because I haven't worked much with open source.  We also discussed file management.  I think having organized files is a very important tool for being efficient and not losing important files you might need.

The technology devices that I use in my home mainly are my Toshiba Laptop (yes, I am a "PC"), which has an intel core duo processor.  I love my computer and don't need anything more.  My house has wifi that is not the best.  I use a 1st generation Ipod Touch,  it does the job so I don't complain.  I have an Xbox 360 that is currently not working (go figure). That is about all of the technology I use in my everyday life.

First Week of Class

The first week of IM 260 really opened my eyes to what I'm going to be taking away from this class.  I am hoping to gain more knowledge on photoshop and indesign, because that is required in the areas of study and work I have been looking into.  I think these blogs are a great idea.  Having everyone make a blog will help us all on how to run a webpage and successfully network with others online.
